carb problem help

Yesterday While riding my 86 KL 600 The bike stalled before it stalled it popped. The bike sat for a few minutes then restarted drove it 1/4 mile then the same thing happened again. This happened 2 more times. The bike sat for an hour started again but the idle was real high about 4000. I turned the bike off tried blowing the carb out with air put everything back together and tried to kick the bike over, It almost started then died. I am going to put a new plug in it todat and try it again. Is something messed up in the carb that would cause this . Thanks for any input Jon
