wolfman explorer tank bag

Post by Joe » Wed Jun 14, 2000 9:03 pm

List, Just received an Explorer Tank Bag I purchased from an individual. It is missing 2 quick release male buckles. Before I call the guy ( Pa. to Co. ) is this a common buckle and if so where can I find them? Thanks, Joe

Joe, Check outdoors/sports stores. Most carry them as replacements for ones that break off backpacks, etc. Take your tank bag with you to make sure you get the right size, or measure the size of the opening on the female buckle. They run about a buck or less each and are usually sold in bulk-style bins. FYI, the Explorer comes with four strap/buckle sets. Cheers, D. GBG eh14

wolfman explorer tank bag

I just received my Wolfman Explorer Tank Bag from Aerostich and mounted it on the KLR. Here are some impressions: 1. It's at least twice the size of the Kawi bag 2. It has a 4 point mounting system (very secure!) 3. Nice removable map window 4. Removable side pockets. 5. Inside key ring clip 6. Map window sits nice and flat 'cause bag is slanted to fit KLR-like tanks (real nice feature) 7. Bag is expandable if needed but holds a ton w/o this feature. 8. Rides great and looks great 9. Little costly at $117.00 but MORE than twice as good as Kawi bag. 10. I have factory Kawi tank bag (very small hole at seam but map window is still in one piece and bag is very functional still) FREE TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO PAY SHIPPING Contact me off list if interested Semper Fi !  (BTW Friday is Marine's 225th B'day!..........Oohh-Raa!) Steve Dallas, Texas A14 ZG 1000 A14 KLR 650 Buell Blast (hers)

It's a well made tankbag, but a bit on the big side. It will crowd you a bit and your bars will tag it at full lock, but you can put a ton of stuff in it and it mounts nice and solid. Gino

After shopping for more than a year.....using the Kaw tankbag......and one the local korean seamstress and I created together.................I finally moved up in the world. Wolfman is my unaquivocal choice. Heaven for packrats, or incessant organisers, it offers lotsa room, plenty o pouches, durability, and can even fit on more than just one bike. It fits the Kaw great. I got my new one a week ago. The bag will clip on or off either front or back so you can fuel or remove it totally. Because I'm finnicky I'll probably line the underneath side with some kind of plush fur(any ideas Jennyfur?). Otherwise the underside looks fine....like it shouldn't scratch. I haven't heard any reports of that as a problem. I'll probably have my Korean pal mod the clip connects to make them velcro but that's just my trip. From what I recall its as durable as any bag gets.....and the pockets offer versatility many don't. Zippers are rugged. So's the map window. Like most bags...this one isn't waterproof.......you'll have to locate some kind of 'showercap' for that........I'm still looking for one..... Wolfman may have one, just haven't asked yet........ I got some tank panniers too.......actually their whole line of bags looks built to last......but I don't know about waterproofness....... Anybody run their saddlebags or rear gear bag? Slide

I have one and gave away my Kawa bag as soon as I had the Explorer mounted. I doubt if it is unusually durable, given the thin and easily faded nature of the nylon (you will see), but the pockets are nice.....the rear one holds my coffee, in any kind of cup - which is a big plus for me, as I always get my preferred drip coffee (Wolf's, in Santa Rosa, if you like outstanding coffee, try www.wolfcoffee.com) in the morning on the way to the office. That pocket will hold a metal cup, styrofoam, or even an open cup. I immediately loved it. Carrying the cup is a special consideration in my daily routine. With my other tankbag, I use the carrying strap, but it only works with a metal cup, and the lids fly off sometimes, rendering the cup useless until I find another lid that fits. BTW, a tankbag with flat bottom which I recommend on the basis of its pockets is the TourMaster TB- 18, for the money it is a great bag (for other than the KLR). Life's a bitch sometimes. I think Wolfman has a new Explorer tank bag. The new one has detachable side bags or something like that. Aerostich satill sells the old type (I asked them). Wolfman has a website but I dont remember the name.

I just recieved my Wolman Explorer in the mail today (189 CDN $). It has the detacheable side pockets and looks pretty functional. The rain cover looks to be good quality too. I need to test out the bag for a couple of months before I can comment any further. Peter Berghs
