I'm wanting to paint my KLR really bad (especially now that I've melted a hole thru the sidecover), but there is one major thing stopping me. I think the tank looks so good, I just can't bare to cover it up. It's not that I don't like the paint scheme, I'm just wanting something different. I'm considering a flat black or possibly a camouflage. I'm not a military guy, a hunter, nor am I a "survivalist" (not that any of these are bad things), but I really like camouflage because it hides imperfections and still looks good dirty. It's also easy to "touch up". Anyone paint their KLR camouflage? Someone mentioned a while back about painting their bodywork with the bedliner stuff you spray onto the bed of trucks. Has anyone actually done this? I've just gotta get a better seat. Great for short commutes. Like the stock seat, but not after 100 miles. My tires are going quick (I'm still somewhat disappointed). Just turned over 2K, not sure if the tires will go much past 3K at this rate. I love the street performance (they're stock), but the wear life really sucks. I think I'll be going with something else, probably more street oriented since only 2% of my riding is offroad. I really like the tread pattern I've seen on the newer Triumph Tigers. The first is a pic of a KLR in gloss black which is yours (right?) and the second is a blue KLR which you followed this guy's painted process (right)? Both nicely done I might add (I really like the black!!). When you say "flexible black", what do you mean? The bedliner stuff? Thanks, Tom - 00KLR650

The black is mine. The guy on the web site recomends using a flexible primer and flexible black(plastikote only has flexible black) It's intended for bumpers. I tried this and the finished looked bad. You need to use clear coat or something you can sand and polish if your using spray cans. I havent heard any thing about the bed liner stuff. You will probably still want to use the adhesion promoter on the plastic. Steve

My tip would be not to go with 'camo'. The design of camo paint is to help things hide. Seems like that isn't what you would want when doing battle with cagers doing lane changes, etc. Pat / Austin

There was a lady here who crashed into a camoed Jeep. She claimed she couldn't see it baecause it looked like a tree. I guess the lady drives into alot of tree laying in the middle of the road.

dr350 for a klr trade?

I have a 90 DR350 dirt only version. I've been trying to get a street title for it, but you just can't get it done in Wisconsin. I figure I'd see if anyone out there would be interested in trading an older KLR for a dirt bike. I sunk all my available assets in to my 01, so I don't have much cash. I want a bike for the wife to ride with me. i'll entertain any other trades as well, but it would almost have to be an enduro model. What I got: 90 DR 350 with a White bros. 385 piston, DG pipe, new tires Cheng Shin front and Dunlop 756 rear, Eibach rear and race tech front springs set up for a 225 lb rider, rear shock just rebuild last summer. Cosmetically(SP?) looks like a 10 year old dirt bike thrashed within an inch of it's life. Mechanically this thing rips! I don't believe a dirt bike should be shiny, but dammit it better start on the second kick and run flawlessly! Any questions email me at brett.lobajeski@... I think I'd even trade for a CR/KX/RM/YZ250 of the same vintage.
