klr mods for na/sa lap?

Speaking only about what I know.... The electric vest is more important than the heated grips. A warm body, good gloves (and hand covers) will keep your hands warm. Be careful adding anything that will draw more electrical power. Learn how to bump start your bike, on dirt, before you go. My SR500 will not run a vest and HotGrips at the same time. Look into the charging capacity of the KLR, maybe you can get away with it. Acerbis Rally-Pro guards will save your levers and perches in a fall. I got them because I am a novice in the dirt and (correctly) expected to drop my bike often. They have paid for themselves maybe five times over by now. I always use inline fuel filters, get one that's about 1.5" in diameter with a paper element, not the little cone shaped ones. The headlamp switch will help if you have battery trouble, Rewire your rechargeable camp light to fit the same plug as the vest. Wire up two of the same sockets. That way you can swap hardware if something fails. If you have been doing well with the stock air filter, I wouldn't change anything. Bring a spare stock air filter in a ziplock already cleaned, oiled, and ready to use. Anything you change, put 500 on before you ride the trip with it.
