nklr - advice needed on rivet link

Post by John Irvine » Sun Jun 17, 2001 2:16 pm

I'm putting on new sprockets and chain on my CBR1100XX and need some list wisdom although it is not an issue one ususlly deals with on the KLR. The chain has a rivit master link, no snap clip, too much HP for that. I have used my stinkin little chain press to get the side plate on but am seeking advise on the best was to flatten the rivet posts without having the special chain tool. I think the tool is about $80 and I haven't got one, yet. I doubt that the usual dealers would lend me one and I believe last time I tried the Yamaha place they said they just use the clip links, not recommended on my application and probably not on an R1 either. Anyway and tips?? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Spot the hottest trends in music, movies, and more. http://buzz.yahoo.com/

Anyway and tips?? I'm getting close to chain replacement time and was wondering the same thing. I had read in the past where some people had problems with the master link coming in contact with the countershaft sprocket cover. I really don't want to spend 80 bucks on a rivet tool. Can anyone tell me if they are running an X-ring chain with a master link does not interfere with the cover, or if there is a way to properly peen a link into a chain without the expensive tool? No one seems to have a way to compress the rivet with out the tool (?). I have been shopping for the riviting tool, Motion Pro lists them at $100, the same thing at DK is $90 and only $86 at Chaparral. Chaparral also lists riviting tools for $64 and $71. I know cheaper can be crap but I may use this thing 1X or at least not a lot. --- epmkessler@... wrote:
