jacking up the klr

Is there something like the "lowering links" that will do the opposite and rise the back of the KLR? Maybe some kind of spacer between the shock and the frame? Anybody already jacked up their KLR? Is there aftermarket shocks that are longer than the stocker? Thanks. Stephane Fontaine A15

Some one , Beats me who ? Had some screw in caps for the forks, made them i think about an inch or so longer. I never got a price on them? I am sure Fred would no. Mike

That was Elden Carl who made those up, I think Slide has the only other set of the fork caps in existence. If you're looking for "raising" links, then contact Swede, he's got a design laid out for them, but little or no time to have them made, I am sure he'd email you a copy of the design (I've got it here somewhere, but I can't find it right now.)... Space is extremely tight back there so don't expect too much of a raise before the swingarm bottoms out on the shock. I estimate that you might be able to get another 1" of lift before this happens. Travel will be the same though. Fred does no, yes. That would be our very own Elden Carl. He was making the fork extenders and I believe Robert Morgan has some in his machine. The longer shock was tried out by Jennifer before her untimely demise but if you ask nicely to Fireball Stu, I am sure he will fill you in. Fred

At 6 foot 3, and 260 lbs, I want my bike as higher as possible.

Ahhhh. A 510 or 500-560 progressive and large dia rear tire(rear), progressive fronts, Eldens fork caps(the machinists name who made them is floating around somewhere.....) and progessive front springs will do that......check it out and if you need more....build from there, would be my input....... FWIW...raising the rear more than the front 'can provoke' a front end wobble but if you go far enough.....it will pass'......tracking in sand will go to hell though.......with my front raised slightly more than the rear it has transformed my machines turning to what I think is near as good as possible.......seat of the pants steering YES! The rack on the KLR, to make it friendlier to trails is pretty sharp, thus some front end high speed instability........of course theres a million ways to counter it....but the best in my view is keeping the rake kicked out a few degrees more than stock settings are capable of.....thus fork caps, or smaller than stock rr dia. tire......(or both!) I have run the MT-21s. They were the worst chunking tire I've used. The D606 really works for me and I don't have any problems with it on the pavement. It also seems to wear much better than the Pirelli or Michelin Comp II. By the way, the Comp II is a great sand tire. My stock tires are hanging up in the garage waiting for me to get too old to ride the dirt. Lance
