chain adjusting problem - advice?

Post by Rltassin@aol.com » Mon Mar 26, 2001 3:51 pm

About 2000 miles ago, after adjusting the chain on my A-12, I noticed that the rear brake disc was heating up. I had been very careful to align the marks on the outer chain adjuster with the marks on the swingarm, measuring them with a steel tape to the nearest 1/32". After searching the archives, I went through the drill for sticky brake pad pins, but that didn't help. The rear brake didn't seem to drag with the rear wheel off the ground, but it must have been dragging to some extent to generate the heat. The problem resolved in about 200 miles, presumably from wearing in the pads to the new alignment. Now, upon adjusting the chain again, I discovered that the holes in the outer chain adjuster (the indexing bracket) are larger than the axle, and allow it to slide back and forth, introducing 3-4/32" play, making it impossible to adjust the two sides accurately (when only 1 or 2 facets of the adjusting nut make the difference between "too tight" and "loose enough." Has anyone else run across this problem? How do you accurately maintain axle (wheel and brake disc) alignment while tensioning the chain? Are all the outer chain adjusters made this way, or did mine wear out larger holes for some reason? Opinions and advice are welcome. Lane T. Throttle Rocker v. Wrist Rest? I don't think we are talking about the same thing. The Wrist Rest is a very slick, machined metal, bar end installed, throttle LOCK. The Throttle Rocker is more of an inexpensive plastic thingy that clips on the throttle and you lay your hand on it hold the throttle open. No? Am I confusing the Throttle Rocker with another product? Cheers Jess Booth Odenton, MD K11LT (SPCL K) KLR650 A14 In a message dated 3/29/01 8:47:44 AM Pacific Standard Time, richardk@... writes:
