Not everything he says is gospel but he brings in other experts. I learned a
lot in on day. Missed some too after the muck got 3 inches deep in the
practice area, I split with the GSs and some others. 900 miles of trails,
rode in snow, oh boy. Another place the Sierra Club would like to shut down.

Like you Robert, we made an observation too. Our observations, mine from 30 years of riding, are not directed at you, so try not to take it personally. Who is hostile anyway? (no special characters in my email)
I agree, we are all motorcyclists, and that should go beyond the brand name of our bikes. Hey, you should enjoy your ride no matter what, right? You have a BMW, Ducati, Buell, and are getting a KLR? I think I can speak for all of us when I say that makes you pretty cool.
Now that we've got that out of the way lets talk KLR's, which is after all what this list is all about.

You know, you guys crack me up. Are you so insecure and overly
judgmental that you can just label people by what they ride? "Those
@#$@#$ Harley guys.....that BMW yuppie @#$@#$" I thought that this
mailing list would be more open and less bias. Apparently not. I ride
a BMW and a Ducati and a Buell and soon a KLR....what the hell does that
make me.
We are all motorcyclist. We should not be mutually exclusive.....who is
the snob?
This is not a slam, just an observation. I thought I left this sort of
thing with the Ducati List.....
I do not warrant hostility.
Can't we all just get along?
Robert

what, right? You have a BMW, Ducati, Buell, and are getting a KLR? I

SNIP... This was basically my response off net. I'm a BMW owner and have traveled extensively on my K11LT. When I decided I wanted something a little more "Dual Sport" for an Alaska ride, my first inclination was the F650. I really like the looks of the new F650GS. But, a decent used F650 can run $5-6K and the new GS is over $8K with a bunch of problems. There was a major recall on the gas tank and assorted complaints about electrical problems and fuel injection glitches. I went with the KLR and saved mucho dinero. I can add a lot of goodies to my KLR and still not be up to what the F650 would have cost. Like I said before in my off list post; maybe this BMW jerk reeealy didn't want to talk about his bike.... I do agree with Jett's posting that the F650 will be a good bike when the dings get ironed out, now if they could just do something about the price... Exactly our point Robert. If I met you riding you BMW or Duc would
you pretend I didn't exist because of my lowly KLR?? I assume not,
you sound like a bike guy. As far Harley riders go, most of them tend
to be the nicest people on the planet. And they mostly just live to
ride. Our constant banter on this list is directed toward BMW,
Harley, Ducati, Vespa etc.. riders who think that their machine is a
trophy mount, or some sort of status symbol. It's the same attitude
of the guy with the new Lexus, who takes up 2 parking spots because
his car is so cool, that we can't stand. I neither ride to be seen or
make friends, I ride because I love to ride. The motorcyclist bond
that developes is a huge added bonus and is welcome from any rider,
yes even the guy on a Vespa.
