Jim, I have tremendous respect for what you've meant to long-distance riding, and I understand why the information on the Big Gun on Andy's site would be considered useful - but only to a limited degree. Andy's site talks only of the good stuff. I've been highly critical of Big Gun in the recent past, and Andy's link made no reference to known problems. For example, I noted that Big Gun began to use rivets at the forward muffler flange, but a newbie on this list would not know why this was so. I like this list in part because for at least a little while each day we don't have to be part of a commerce-driven world. Don't try to sell me shiny new equipment and promises of wonderful performance - this list tells me specific and comparative information about what happens in the real world. Andy's reference totally obfuscated that intent. Anyway, please don't shoot me if I pass through DFW. The place almost killed me last time on the way back from Moab. Stuart A12

I was working for a Yama/Kawa dealer in '92 about the time the KLX came out. This was gonna be a test to see if it would take over sales from the KLR. ( According to Kawa Reps at this time). The engine was more kin to a one cylinder Vulcan than the KLR. It steered better, braked better, but didn't run that much faster as to notice on our trail rides in the tight forest trails we rode at that time. But the KILLER was the near $1000 dollar more on the price tag. It just wasn't a 1000 bucks better than the KLR according to most of the guys riding KLR's that I came into contact with at this time. Hence , no sales, and as the Japenese do. If it don't sell , quit making it or sending it to the USA. When the Factory dudes that were Japanese came by the the shop and we would suggest some kinda bike , the first thing they would ask , " How many units do you think would sell here?"... But, I , like everone else, would just love to see better forks, brakes, etc and not drive the price up to compete head to head with the DR650 or XR650s... Course, at the factory level, wonder just how much something compatable with the MAP brakes and a set of KX front forks and maybe a KX rear shock would add to the price?
