Mine is out there under a tarp, right now - where it belongs. All my bikes used to live outside, until I got too many of them for the back yard, now the newest one is in the living room. Yes, I live in a small place in the city. It will be fine, don't worry. Best security device is good theft insurance, and a double barreled twelve gauge is good as well. I have both. The tarp was 2.99 at Home Depot.

Well you obviously have your priorities confused. What's the matter with you? Put 'er in the living room. If you don't have one, the bedroom will suffice.

I have used a cover before, but be very careful if you live in an area that gets heavy winds, a cover will pull a bike down. Also, the cover will chafe your plastic. I'd just leave it out uncovered and use a U lock on it. Avoid disk break locks. MR

Hi Rex, I don't know for sure. Yesterday, somebody posted an advert for a '96 for $2200. I remember you telling me that I should go with '96 or newer due to some important mods. Well I called the number but there was no answer. It's in California. One of the questions I would have to ask is whether the guy would store it until Spring when I could ride it home to PA. Well I have a friend who sells motorcycles for a living and he advised me that that would be a longish trip on a KLR and that if I looked long enough, even in cycle trader, I would probably find one around here for the same money. And of course if I were to ship it, that would add another 600 bucks to the equation making it a less attractive deal. Bottom line, I didn't call back. Hope that's not a mistake.

You know, as an addendum, I forgot to mention that I have never even thrown a leg over a KLR 650. There's a nice fellow who's on the list and lives less than an hour from me. He offered to let me ride his in the Spring. It's mothballed for the winter currently. I would like to try one out before committing to a purchase. (Kinda like going all the way with a girl before you marry her).

Dude, you can get these disk lock things that go on the brake disk. I plan on getting one but my only concern is that if you forget it's on the disk and try to roll the bike, would it harm the caliper? I don't know? Maybe others on the list could comment. Congrats on the new ride!!! Rob (KLR 99) thetrueyeti@... wrote:

If left on and then forgot, you could warp the brake rotor. Don't ask me how I know but it's easy to do when used all the time. ( I have a oversized MAP rotor now thank you very much) . Some people run a highly visible cable to the throttle grip from the rotor lock to remind them when it is locked.
