oiled nipples

This weekend I had to have a broken spoke repaired. The mechanic said that since I live in a coastal area, I should have my nipples oiled. Is this true? Motomama

Ahem... I assume we are talking about the nipples that the spoke attaches to the wheel with? It would be prudent to squirt something like WD40 or liquid wrench in each one, but I'm not sure that's what caused the spoke to break. I've been told the same thing, er... in so many words, since I ride where road salt is used. Gino
