new mexico trails wanted

Post by Zachariah Mully » Mon Nov 13, 2000 10:59 am

NM korgers- I have a friend headed out your way to mid- New Mexico and he's looking for good riding. Anyone care to offer up some of their favorite spots? He's on a KTM640Exc or something like that... I know he'll appreciate the help. Funny how he comes to me and says "You must have bookmarks full of NM trails and must have heard tons o'stuff on the KLR list" Looks like people expect us to get around on our KLR's. Well, we do ;) Zack SE DC 1991 KLR650 "Buster" 1986 Concours

Were is he headed? New MExico is a pretty big place. Here is some general info. Anything in Nothern New Mexico will be snowed in by now as we have been getting a winter storm ever few days out here. Down south should be better except in the mountains. There is some great riding on the Navaho Indian Reservation and he could make it to a great ghost town called Riley. A couple of water crossingings will be in order. La Bajada hill. between Albuquerque and Santa Fe is good also. Gino

Bogdan: Yes, you have been missed. Welcome back! Cosmo: I'm on the list -- web only. I don't have a KLR anymore. I'm riding a DR650 and liking it; I'm riding a 996 Super Hawk and loving it. --Verle Nelson Cedaredge, Colorado

new mexico trails wanted

Subject: Re: New Mexico Trails wanted Zack- Thanks. We were thinking south of Albuquerque, North of Truth or Consequences, and west of I-25. This generally describes the Cibola National Forest. Their web page describes many miles of trail and fire-road for motorcycle use, but doesn't have any in-depth information. Our goal is a few days of 150-200 mile loops, depending on difficulty. Ghost towns sound good. Riders are all reasonably skilled but not experts. Bikes are DR-Z 400s, KLR, KTM 620 E/XC, and a DR 650. To give the DSN a sense of what we are looking for, the loops we were thinking about in Moab are white rim trail (to via gemini bridges, from via shaffer trail), and some of the rides listed on the KLR 650 homepage. Thanks, Ned
