list archives....no access?
Anyone else having difficulty accessing the archives? All I can get
from either computer is a "page can not be displayed" message once I
hit the search button.

I can't get anything either. All I get is "an error in syntax".

If you are already logged into egroups, you can search the new archives here- http://www.egroups.com/messages/DSN_klr650 Make sure the first box says "This Archive" and then type whatever your searching for in the second box. It looks like we have lost the old archives.... We'll just have to make more. MotorMark> > Has anyone been able to use the search feature for the archives? I just noticed if you go there, and click on "Expand", it will show the messages like the digest format. You can also view by thread. snake and weights - as good as it gets?
Another method to add mass to the bar ends is provided by Suzuki. Their
weighted bar-ends, as used on their current dual sport 650 (DLR650 ??),
clamp nicely into the ends of the bar with an expanding rubber plug. I have
used these for years. The results at freeway speeds is amazing.

Subject: [DSN_klr650] Snake and Weights - As good as it gets?
For a big bore single, I am surprised at the relative low vibration
level of the KLR. The frame seemes to damp most of the vibrations,
but still, many of them seem to be echoed up through the steering
stem and bars. I am sensitive to vibration in my extremities (too
many years of District 38 desert racing?). Seems like my circulation
loses the battle with the vibration and gives up. The view in the
mirrors (or lack thereof) for me is a secondary matter.
I installed the bar snake and noticed some improvement. BTW, I
couldn't bring myself to rub grease all over the thing like the
instructions suggested. Instead, I have a squirt bottle of "pulling
fluid" that I used. The pulling fluid is used by electricians to
lube wires before pulliing them through conduit. You can buy it at
the electrical department of your local home inprovement center.
In addition to the bar snake, I installed weights to the end of the
bars. I found some oval lead sinkers at a fishing store. They were
about 1 1/4" long and about 1" in diameter. I have a 7/8" hole saw
that I used to "machine" the weight down to the right diameter. I
took the pilot drill out of the hole saw. The inside diameter of the
hole saw was just right for the outside diameter of the finished
weight. I pulled the bar snake out of the bars a bit and cut off
about 3/4" from each end. I then pounded the weights in each end of
the bars.
I think that now the vibration is as good as it is going to get.
Hand comfort is much improved. I find I can hang onto the bars for
much longer periods of time before having to "rest". I can actually
see things in the mirrors now. At 65mph (16 tooth CSS), I can see
individual cars. I can tell what color they are and what lane they
are in. There is some mirror vibration from about 3500 to 3700 rpm,
but nothing like it was prior to the snake and weights. It doesn't
bother me much because I don't seem to spend much time in that
particular rpm range.
Speaking of hand comfort, I am always been annoyed by practice of the
manufacturers to incorporate excessive throttle return spring
pressure in their designs. One of the modifications I always do to
my bikes is to reduce the return spring tension. For me, that
greatly increases hand comfort and throttle control. If anyone is
interested in a "how-to", let me know.
