nklr: helmet stolen from givi box

Post by J C » Fri Oct 27, 2000 7:06 am

Hi, For those of you who keep your helmets/stuff in your GIVI boxes overnight, beware,.. just had my brand new $200 helmet stolen from within the GIVI box. (the bike was parked next to the entrance of the car park where traffic is high, and facing a main road) Although the construction of the box is pretty tough, the latch portion is pretty useless; I think the thieving bastard merely used a screwdriver to prise the open the box. I though the GIVI bags came off easy so you could take them with you?

Hey Squasher: If you had Givi's or any other removable bags, would you take them into McDonald's while you have a burger and take a pee? Lew Wateman Punky & Lew's Americas Motopaseo Greenacres, Florida

The original message didn't say it was in front of a McDonalds. It said a car park. To me a car park is where you park your car overnight if you live in an apartment or condo. A parking garage or lot is where you park if going into a store. I guess words mean different things to people depending on where they are from (east coast or west). I always take my helmet where ever I go. If I cant set it down in a clean spot while I'm using the toilet, I'll wear it. I'm not saying it's the guy fault for leaving it in the GIVI. I just thought they where removable. It's obviously the thiefs fault.

it on Sunday the 22nd. at the NJ dual sport ride, where I met fellow KLRists Zack, Robb & Tumu Rock (don't know your real name, & yes I'm here). I've begun looking for tips/mods to do to the 250 but with over 13,000+ posts It'll be slow going. So if any of you 250 owners have any info on my "to do" list I'd sure appreciate it.

Glad you made it Anthony. (BTW that IS my real name...just ask momma). 1)I'm a big fan of the Pirelli MT21's myself but for the money the Kenda270s look pretty tempting... 2)Yeah I'd definitely get a SS line at least for the front if not for both brakes. I don't know if the 250 suffers as badly as the 650 in the braking department but it can't hurt to upgrade. ANd it's fairly cheap for the peace of mind. 3)Don't know on a 250 4)A lot people don't think so. You'll probably get more out of c/s gearing changes than a muffler. I got a S-Trapp cuz my stock muffler developed the dreaded "tweety bird effect" and it was unbearable for me. Plus I got a great deal from someone on the list. 5)Don't know about that either. Welcome aboard, dat brooklyn bum
