nklr - bike's in the house?

Post by Tom Vervaeke » Fri Oct 13, 2000 8:57 am

Hello: I've seen several posts from folks talking about placing their bikes inside the house, i.e. the living or dining room. Questions: 1. Are you serious? In the living part of the house? 2. Are you single? 3. If not single, how do you convince wife to allow bike in house? My bikes stay in the garage or the heated basement workshop. I can't even think of putting a dirty, oily machine full of gasoline in the house. Perhaps you're jesting and I'm just too clueless. Bill E Goat: My other bike is a 96 R1100GS. It's got 62K on it in the 3 years since new. It's going to go to 100K and beyond. How could you sell a boxer? They're so ugly and homely they're loveable. Tom V. Some people don't have a heated basement workshop, or even a garage. I used to keep my KLR in the large lounge room of a big house that a bunch of us rented in a very nice part of town. The woman who owned the property said that my bike was the cleanest bike she'd seen. It helps if the bike isn't dirty or oily, and timber floor make things a bit simpler as well. I think that people walking in and out of the house brought more dirt in than my bike. Mister_T

Yes, where I live housing is incredibly expensive to I consider myself substantially fortunate to at least own a small two bedroom condo. the yard is quite small and with my two dogs living out there it's not a good place to work on a bike, but the beemer R1100 and KLR are stored out there. There is just enough room left for the new Bandit arriving soon, but I may park it inside for a while. Inside it's warm, and I can put good light on a bike if I'm working on it, and be right next to the computer if I need to leave a page on the screen or ask the list a question.. Also, no dirt gets on the parts if I drop them on the floor. Maybe a little dog hair. I had a couch which took up a lot of space inside the lv rm but in their ever-good judgement the dogs chewed it up, sonow there is a lot more room and if any girls come over and want to watch tv or something the only place to do it together is in my bedroom! Yes, single. No adult responsibilities, other than to get to the office and do a little work. I am digging it. Wives, as a general rule, prefer their living rooms to be all nice with nice furniture. I don't have to do that here. It's OK with me. Thanks for our inquiry.

Not selling. The R1100RS in Black is my 11th beemer and definitely the most endearing. Cool machine.

Our house has a workshop that is on the same level as the family room that has a door on the back of the house that I can bring bikes into. 220 for my compressor also. When we toured the house I walked into that room and thought to myself "Sold!". Mark McCoy

Answers: 1: Yes, I think it will look good in the dining room. There is nothing in there at present, and I have a table in the kitchen that works fine for meals and entertaining. A great conversation item. 2: I'm single, the girlfriend might not be too happy about the bike in the house but then I'm not too impressed with some of the decorations at here place. 3: Not applicable. The bike is pretty clean and does not cause a mess. Peter B 8>) A15 (in the garage coz its still ridin' season) Tom Vervaeke wrote:

My bikes all live indoors, when we added onto our house Lynn (my wife) designed a "motorcycle room" downstairs and "her room" upstairs. It has an extra wide door exiting into the driveway, and I have had seven bikes in there and can roll one out without moving any of the others. The walls are covered in motorcycle posters, and we have shelves with various motorcycle models and replicas displayed. there are shelves with back issues of just about every American, Canadian, or British bike mag you can name, and bookshelves with my collection of motorcycle books. Also a workbench and a large tool chest. Oh yeah and a stereo, and at the moment five motorcycles. By the way the project was her idea not mine, she's quite a lady. Sweet! You are a lucky man Ed. Here's the "Ed Boyd Ultimate Setup". House on the water, ocean or lake, incredible views. Barn out back, converted to a shop. You walk in and there's a front area with a couch, easy chairs, wet bar, stereo, big screen tv, etc. Then you have the tiled floor, with motorcycles lined up on one side, cars on the other. On the other end, you have the killer shop. All the tools and equipment you will ever need. After dinner, I tell the wife, "I think I'll go out to the shop to work on the bikes." I get out there, turn on the stereo, get a giant drink of my favorite concoction (scotch, brandy, microbrew, vino, rootbeer, whatever) and get out a giant stogie and reflect on how great life is. But for now, I'll have to settle for setting up half the 2 car garage with a workbench and an area to work on the bikes. Not complainin either, just dreamin' and plannin'. :^) Ed-Lovin' life in Duvall-Boyd
