buell blast nklr

Post by rkaub@binghamton.edu » Mon Oct 16, 2000 8:22 am

There's a new one parked in the motorcycle area at work lately. I got a chance to see it up close. It's a very clean appearing bike and generally I like it. Two things caught my attention. The first is the muffler. It hangs way down and looks like an agricultural plow welded on the front of the bike. I think it's ugly and prone to scraping if you get on some uneven terrain or drive off curbs. The second is the rear brake caliper. If you notice, most bikes with disk rear brakes have the caliper mounted on top of the swingarm so it squeezes the top of the disk. The Blast has it mounted on the bottom of the swingarm just inches from the ground and more exposed to rocks, etc. flying up and hitting it. But, as I said earlier, it's a very clean looking bike. I would like to ride one. Thanks. Bob Kaub

I saw the Blast at the dealers and it looked weak. The front brake disk looks like it will snap off if the brake is applied. The rear wheel sprocket mounting looked weak also. And the muffler exits in front of the tire. But overall the bike does look clean and well made for the $3995 price tag. Suzuki GSXR's have the rear caliper under the swing arm also. I would also like to try a Blast.
