Does anyone have experience installing the UFO lower front
fender on a late model KLR 650? I have a 2000 model and am having
some difficulty. I mounted the clamps at the top of the shock tube,
the flat spot where the boot attaches. I actually covered the bottom
1/2" of the boot with the clamp. I did not use the inner clamp sleeve
because it woiuld not allow the clamps to close enough the catch the
fastener threads. Mounting the clamps any lower and it would be on
the shock reflectors, any higher and the clamp would be on the fork
tube. I had a fairly miserable time trying to align the clamp
faseners and when I finnaly got both clamps hooked up, one of the
leading edge fender flares, the part of the fender that (flares) out
half way around the shock, was distorted and pressing/angling into
the boot forming a desent abrasion point on the boot. I realigned all
the fasteners making sure they and the clamps were all evenly spaced
and I still have some distortion in the fender flairs. Then when I re-
installed the front tire. I found the tire would severly rub and jam
on the inside of the fender. I still have the OEM 90/90-21 on. In
addition, the outboard edge of the tire tread also rubbed on the hex
heads of the clamp fasteners.
The fender appears to mount in only one spot, right at the top
of the shock tube. I know I don't want to change to an 18" tire. Any
help from a UFO fender bender would be greatly appreciated.

I was told that pulling long wheelies on the KLR will burn the motor up??
I ride 1st 2 & 3ed gear wheelies , Something like all the oil will go to the
back of the slump and burn the motor up,, Is the KLR prone to this????
Where is the oil pump on the KLR will it suck dry doing long wheelies,
Mike
