now broken in

I bought a new KLR-650 this summer. I took it to the Dealer about a month ago to receive the 500 mile service and asked them to check the valve adjustment. I was told by the manager that it would not be neccessary, contrary to everything I've read. I've now got 900 mile on the bike and I'm wondering if I should take it back in just for the valve check. I'm also concerned that maybe this guy just does'nt know how to check or adjust valves and will only screw it up or not do it at all. Any body out there have any suggestions?

We've seen this scenario a bunch of times on the list...you are right to think you should check the valves...many of us have required valve adjustments at 500, 1500, 3,000, and 6,000 miles...after that they settle in nicely. The best approach is to do it yourself or find someone you have confidence in... Kurt
