stripped tank bolts

Post by Brad Davis » Thu Sep 28, 2000 2:57 pm

Hello all, Has anyone had a problem with the two bolts stripping that hold the fuel tank down? Both of mine are badly galled and probably won t last through many more disassemblies. It looks like I could just drill out the threads on the old nuts, which look to be welded in place. I thought I would then use two longer SS bolts of the same diameter and two SS nylok type nuts and washers as replacements. It sounds like this would work OK. Has anyone worked out a better method for this problem? Thanks everyone, Brad A9 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! stripped tank bolts

Funny you mention this. I thought it was just me. The first thing I did to my KLR was to put on a tank bag and wire it for an electric vest. I wanted to raise the tank so I undid the two bolts. When I went to put them back in, something didn't seem right. Sure enough, one was stripped. Is this a common size or do I need to go to big Green for a new one? Leon Droby KLR650 - A14
