Purchased a new '01 klr650 yesterday, great looking bike. It will be my first motorcycle. I am 6'6" 240lbs and it fits me perferctly. But you guys were right about that front brake. It feels really weak and nose dives. My question is do I really need to buy a pair of riding boots? I was going to wear my cowboy boots or combat boots when riding. I don't want to buy special pair of boots, it would be kinda like women who have 10 pairs of black dress shoes that all look alike. Craig

a good pair of hiking type boots (like combat boots) is perfect for most riding. if you end up doing lots of dirt riding, you find you want real moto boots, or at least something with more protection, but a decent set of work boots would probably work great. i finally got some moto boots for offroading because they're stiff where i stand on the pegs, and i can tour in them and have toastier legs because i can tuck my pants down into them instead of getting cold wind up them. it's not like anyone is going to make fun of you for not having the official fashionable boots when you're riding a klr anyway. mw

IMHO, combat boots are OK.  If your cowboy boots are like mine, with smooth leather soles, they're not a good idea.  They're very slick when wet.  Something like Sidi Discovery, http://www.motonation.com/trialzero.cfm, are much better and worth the price.   Robert A13
