dual-star, or the little centerstand that couldn't...
KLR list,
As I related in past posts, I purchased a Dual-Star centerstand several
months ago, that failed right away (cocked too far forward, and wouldn't
hold the bike up), and got replaced. The next one failed right away, the
pin drifted out the right side. It was sent back, and the pin welded in
place. After replacing it, it failed almost immediately, in the same
fashion as the first one. At that point, I tossed the thing in the corner
of the garage and forgot about it.
First I want to say that I don't think badly of the Dual-Star folks, for
some reason *I* can't get their stand to work on *my* bike. Everybody else
on this list, with the possible exception of the one other that had the pin
drift out, has had tremendous success with this product. I really am a
magnet for any kind of product problems, Murphy definitely works overtime at
my house. Even though the they had only got a report of the pin drifting
out once before, they now weld all of them as standard practice after my
failure; very proactive on their part.
After getting tired of seeing the thing sitting in the garage for a few
months, I decided I might as well send it back to them. They said that I
could have [all] my money back if I wanted. I let them know, I could
probably find enough stuff from them to come close to the cost of the stand;
real hard to do - yeah right =]. Talk about a kid in a candy store. They
not only gave me credit for the full cost of the stand, but also for the
shipping cost I accrued from sending it back to them a three times, and I
now have a big goody package on the way!!
I just want to let everyone know that even though I had so much problem with
the stand, they really did take care of me - it's simply not my klr's
destiny to have one of their stands!!

dual-star, or the little centerstand that couldn't...
Steve: I sure hope Dual Star has the bugs worked out of its centerstand.
Maybe I better inquire of Dual Star before I order one. I sure don't want to
suffer through an ordeal like you did. Glad to hear Dual Star stood by their
product and refunded your money. Thanks for the info. I'm a newbie on the
list. Too bad I haven't heard of an alternative centerstand still available.

As I understand it, there aren't any other centerstands made specifically
for the KLR. Many people on the list have the Dual-Star unit, and have had
absolutely no problem with them. I'm the odd man out, but that seems normal
for me! =]

I ordered a pair of Dual-Star Mirrors thinkin' I'd give them a try. After 7
weeks, I'm still waiting on them. I ordered a center-stand from Dual-Star
and I'm workin' on week 5 waiting on it. I'm beginning to wonder if
Dual-Star exists or is it someone who just answers the
phone.........................steve

To me, the important thing is: how long did they tell you they would
take?
Giving a customer realistic expectations is very important in my
eyes. If they told you that the stuff would take that long, then
good for them. On the other hand, if they told you that you would
get the stuff sooner, shame on them!!
I was told that some of the stuff I ordered with my credit would take
a while. I let them know which stuff was important to me, and to
ship that stuff [that was in stock] immediately, letting the other
stuff hang on back order.
I guess I'll find out how well they set my expectations, eh?

The Dual-Star centerstand on my KLR was easy to install and has worked
flawlessly since installation about 3000 miles ago. Only beef is that there
is no tang to step on, best way to get it up on stand is to lean the bike
over on sidestand until centerstand can be deployed fully, then rock it down.
The stand makes chain and swingarm maintenance much easier as well as wheel
removal. Best accessory I've installed on the bike, which is loaded with
others.

ohlins for klr650?
Hello,
Ohlins does not list a shock for my 1999 KLR650.
Ohlins does list a shock for a KL650 Tengai (1989-1994).
Would this Tengai shock work with my KLR?
What other shocks are available for the KLR650, and what are their
approximate prices?
Thank you.
