[dsn_klr650] back pain 101 ~nklr swim!

Hi back sufferers, I hurt mine by improper heavy lifting with already tired back muscles. Long story short: couldn't walk for 2 weeks, lived alone, had no health insurance (my own start up business). My mother sent a clipping of an article that stated even a slipped disk could heal without treatment. Inspired, I had a sports medicine center fax some stretching exercises for back injuries and did them for a week. Could walk (hobble) again. Remembered hearing that swimming was low impact - good for joint injuries. You strengthen the muscles surrounding the injured joint with no jarring. Joined the community pool for $5. Laid beside the pool and stretched. Swam laps (taking breathers) for 20 minutes each time, every other day for 2 weeks. One month later I was carrying a 35 lb. backpack up Long's Peak in the winter. Eric Colorado Springs A13L "Beef" ps- still feel stiff if I don't stretch the back daily, though.
