I got to this site and found out it was a little expensive for a "rally" -
$750, if I remember correctly. At this point I lost interest. Not that I'm
against spending some money for some good motorcycling, but this is getting
close to what a "special" would cost from Pancho Villa Moto Tours or Rosen
Rides. I rode with PVMT to Copper Canyon and I know they give you excellent
value. This deal, who knows.

here is the text of the email my brother (mechanical engineer, specializing
in automotive emissions) sent me in response to my questions about
DirectHits. Sounds to me like there may be something there, but i should
wait a bit and see if jim's bike blows up from using them.

Mark: Sorry for the delay in responding to your question. I have been ridiculously busy for the last two weeks. I looked at the DirectHits stuff on the web, and I don't see any reason it wouldn't work. On the other hand, I don't think that it will significantly help performance of normal automotive-type engines, as they seem to ignite just fine using the present ignition technology. If you can light the fire with a match, you don't need to use a thermite grenade. I would not want to use this system on a 1990 or later car with electronically-controlled ignition, just in case there were some negative interaction with the existing electronics. Also, I would be a little concerned about possible faster erosion of the spark plugs. Dumping all that extra energy into the plasma in such a short time could mean that you vaporize the electrodes a lot faster. Bottom line - if you are using an old car without electronic ignition, and think that the performance might be improved by better ignition, I'd try it. Likewise on engine-powered equipment - especially two-stroke engines (which really do have ignition problems at light load). Otherwise, I wouldn't.
