quite a difference...the Kawi bag it attached to a "bra" that offers some nice protection for the paint where your knees ride. It is small. The Explorer is much larger with an expanion compartment. It is also much more expensive. I've had them both and liked them both and currently use the Explorer on my DR and Quota... Kurt

I don't use a Kawasaki tank bag, but I understand it is low in volume and not constructed as well as the KLR :^). First... I hate the new ad placement and would be more than willing to chip in ONCE my DSN issues show up ;) Regardless... I would probably go with the Wolfman tankbag. Right now I have the Kawi tank bag and I find it pretty useless for my purposes. First it sits on the down slope of the tank, so anything heavy in it causes it to sag on to your seat. Next the map pocket is totally useless and extremely dangerous in my opinion. I am 6'4" so this may not be the case for shorter riders, but to see anything in the map pocket you have lean way back and tilt your head so far down that you can no longer see the road ahead of you. Then the map pocket is slanted towards you so that in addition to having get into wierd positions you then can't read it because it is at an obtuse angle to you. Sure the ability to fill the tank without pulling the tankbag off is nice, but who the hell spends all their time filling the tank on a KLR? I would much rather have a nice useable tankbag that I might have to unclip to fuel up but that is better than not knowing where you're going and creating a potentially dangerous situation. I don't know if the wolfman is any better, but I can recommend against the Kawi if you are a taller person. YMMV. i got the wolfman magnetic bag, and drove to utah and back with it. it's not huge, but it's much, much bigger than the kawi bag, and cost almost twice as much. it sticks back enough to get in the way a little when standing, but i feel i have no business trying to negotiate gnarly stuff with a full load. my intent was to have a place to put all the handy stuff (money, sunglasses, chapstick, snacks, warmer clothes like scarf, turtleneck, balaclava, etc...) so i wouldn't have to dig deep into the panniers on the road. i got the best fit by turning the bag backwards. i tried it at my local dealer and bought it from them. mw
