[dsn_klr650] damn adverts here..... nklr

Post by Shepard,Brian » Wed Aug 30, 2000 7:48 am

For whatever it's worth, I don't mind the ads. Every now and then you will see an interesting one that gets even more interesting when you peruse it. I'm always open to new possibilities. Keep the ads. The whole idea is to make money. I think egroups has a very COOL service here and the more money they make from ads, the less users will have to pay. It's fair & good. Advertising makes the free world go around & it stimulates the imagination. I will not pay a dollar for the same reason I will not pay to help NBC to air "The West Wing" or any other show. I'll let the companies that want to advertise on NBC to pay for "The West Wing" & other shows. Yes, "The West Wing" is one of my favorite shows & this has been my advertisement for "The West Wing". Don't miss "The West Wing" tonight 8:00/9:00pm. -Brian Shepard A13 -----Original Message----- From: e. rhoads [mailto:eroads@...] Sent: Wednesday, August 30, 2000 1:31 AM To: DSN_klr650@egroups.com Subject: [DSN_klr650] Re: damn adverts here..... nklr

These egroups people were
planning to make money sooner or later weren't they. It won't stop with this either and in time will become worse. More ads or if you don't want the ads then more $ please. Personally I don't tolerate this well. Incessant advertising hastened my departure from AOL and it will do nothing to improve my KLR eList experience here either. This new internet world is quite dynamic however and .....things change. However, at this point it may make sense to simply pay the lousy blighters and have it off. Damn bloodsuckers. (yeah, i know I should be more realistic) If you guys are interested we can organize a group of self-selected listers to keep this at bay. What I propose is that, given enough interest, we can all share the burden of keeping ads off the list. What do you say to having a rotating group of five contribute a buck each month? I volunteer the first $1....anyone else? For example, with enough group interest it wouldn't have to cost any of us more than $1 per year plus stamp....at least not until they raise the rate. So....may I have a show of emails expressing your self-interest? thanks, eric PS.... ............ by the way, if there isn't much interest in doing this right now, I'll ask again in a week or so and see if we have a useable consensus...;) I know by then *I'll* be going nuts. ............ I'm aware that there's software that removes banner ads, do any of you know how we might use something like that which would work on this stuff? Sooner or later one of us might hear of something. Please do pass it along. ............it may make more sense for one different person to send $4.95 every month....we could elevate that individual to hero status as "Savior of the Month" .....er, I don't think I'll volunteer to be first for that one....adulation doesn't fit me well....heh.....well, "First Advertising Curmudgeon" of the month I could take. The banner removing software I have works but there is still text shit all over at the top. Funny thing is, a lot of egroup messages keep trying to phone home when I read the emails ... my firewall stops that too. I'd be more than happy to be the first to pay ... if I can find where and how. Steve in Cincy

The ads I don't mind as it's how they get the income but being at the top sucks because it just gets in my way ... trying to eat lunch with one hand and read mail with the other hand!

Check it out here: http://www.egroups.com/info/noads.html The group owner needs to send in a check for $59.40 for a full year of no ads for his group. For me, the banners really suck. Outlook has a cool feature that lets you quickly look at the top 3 lines of text from a message, and now all I see are ads. If you guys are interested we can organize a group of self-selected listers to keep this at bay. __________________________ This is already being looked into Eric. DSN is currently looking for the best solution, and once found - we should have the ads taken care of. Kurt Simpson will keep us updated on the matter and will be asking for a $0.07 donation from each one of us.... :) Arne

===== no way I would pay that much! ....if 12 people were willing, it would be 5 bucks per person per year.,,,that's how I understand what was said.... If 120 people got on board it would be 5 bucks per person once every 10 years....I hope that's right.
