And then what happens, is it supposed to turn into a pumpkin? By around 30,000 miles you might be considering replacing the camchain and the balancer chain, maybe the clutch plates as well, but with proper routine maintenance the rest of the motor and bike should still have lots of life left. it is just nonsense Dan....as I recall that was a site designed to prove how an oil additive can increase the life of an engine...The KLR guru Elden Carl claims 100,000 miles is possible if you avoid sustained high speeds and change cam and balancer chains at 30,000 miles. We have several listers with well over that amount... The following web page is the culprit I think:
http://home.att.net/~flafrank/kawasaki.htm
I think it must be a typo when he says "The bike has a life expectancy of
probably 50,000 km (30,000 mi) max." This page's link will show up when you
do a search on "KLR650" or anything related. The home page of this site is:
http://home.att.net/~flafrank/index.htm
Anyone know him? Maybe we should contact him so he can correct the info.
My mechanic said if I take care of it and change the oil every 3000 miles,
it could last forever and at the very least 100,000 miles.

I was reading at another web site relate to KLR650s and the statement
was made that the KLR 650 will last for aprox. 30,000 miles is this a
correct statement?
