I have Happy Trails original racks with regular Ortliebs mounted permanently with straps under/behind the seat, and I have had no problems with the exhaust trying to melt the bags, set fire to my undies, or melting the side panels. For my money, Tim's or Arne's racks are the only way to go. The racks are expensive compared to those from Kawi, but you get what you pay for. Quite frankly, when you look at the actual product, the Kawi rack is way overpriced for what you get compared to what Tim and Arne offer. Ralph who celebrated getting back from family vacation by riding the KLR to an overnight meeting 75 miles away. Gee, a nice ride, and it was work! Really! Ralph E.
