Neil, I and a number of other KLR listers ride both KLRs and Honda ST1100s. If you are going to run long distances with minimum headaches, you can't beat an ST. It has an upright sitting position, a large fuel tank, really smooth, handles well in the twisties, and is very happy running all day at 100 mph+. There is a significant following for this bike in the Iron Butt Community. Randy

Ya know, maybe the K&N filters don't work as well if you oil them with API SJ oil. The friction modifiers probably let the particles slip on by. What you have to do, is get some old K&N SE grade oil and... HAW HAW HAW! And I'd trade in my GS1100E for a ZRX1100 in a second, if those enviro-commies would let them be sold in CA. Just dropped my RX-7 off for yet another carb adjustment, after failing 4 smog tests in a row... Of course, I don't qualify for the one-time waiver (after $450 in repairs), because the repairs have to be done at a certified smog shop, even though none of them know how to work on rotary engines, so I've been doing the work myself.
