[dsn_klr650] we're all a little different

Post by Shepard,Brian » Wed Aug 09, 2000 8:23 am

Hi Dan, My A13 is absolutely awesome. It seems very smooth. It's NOT underpowered. It has unbelievable torque & I cruise very comfortably at 70-80 mph for long periods in very hot weather & I can burst to 100-110 mph very quickly. I have about 6000 miles on it now. I have owned a Honda 350 & 750 and have ridden many other bikes. My A13 totally rocks & is totally stock and will stay that way. To each his own, but I don't understand why everyone is modifying their bikes so much. -Brian Shepard A13 -----Original Message----- From: dan shaw [mailto:dan_iss@...] Sent: Wednesday, August 09, 2000 9:08 AM To: DSN_klr650@egroups.com Cc: garagedoor79@... Subject: [DSN_klr650] we're all a little different hey everyone, i was just wondering if each klr is a little different, not due to customizing, but just the way they are made. it seems that some riders klrs vibrate like crazy and some dont..some are underpowered, some do just fine. some are relaible as heck and some are plagued with problems... is it possible that there could be differences in performance of stock bikes simply due to manufacturing tolerances? are there folks out here who have ridden lots of stock klrs and noticed any differences? dan __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I love my A13. I have no complaints. I can't say I have ridden any other KLRs so I have nothing to compair to. I beleive alot is in your expectations. Some guys buy a KLR expecting a Gold Wing others expect a CR250R. There will always be some people disappointed no matter what. A lot of these comments are very subjective in nature and are based on expectations and perceptions. MY KLR suffers by the "framing effect" as I have spent 20 years riding motocrossers. To me, the KLR is heavy, vibrates like half a Harley, and is underpowered BUT that is compared to a 220 pound KX 250 with 12 inches of suspension travel. I think reliability problems are the exception rather than the rule, however I DO believe the manufacturing tolerances are sloppy from bike to bike. As far as why modify the bike.... Haven't you even seen Tim Allen on "Tool Time"? It's a guys RESPONSIBILITY to tinker with anything mechanical! I have NEVER met anyone who rode a bike that didn't do something to it to "enhance" it. All kidding aside, I like to have my bike suit me, and it didn't come from Japan like that. From the grips and handle bar position, to motor characteristics, to suspension, lots of little things are done (to be done) to make my bike suite my preferences. The KLR is a great bike, but in my opinion is just a good starting point. Lamar A14 (lotsa' tinkering)

I think alot of it might be the weight, shape and riding style of the owners. Renn A15

We've all got different expectations, and we weigh the KLR's performance per the individuals intended purpose for their KLR & against different rides we've had. I expect that the only real difference between the last 10 or so model year KLR's produced, is the occasional "slipped thru the cracks" lemon. I personally like that feeling of speed the KLR gives you at just 60mph. Nice rush/less tickets. Many other bikes would have me in more trouble & less satisfied right now. Scott A14 "thunderdog"

I rode my VTR250 on a longish jaunt today, about 130 miles. Now the VTR is quick for a 250 it will do a little over 100 but by todays sport bike standards that's really slow. Anyway, I got to thinking about this thread and something someone said to me years ago. "It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow". Think about it. I hope you all have as much fun on your next ride as I had today. Ed Windsor Oh

I wish i knew too... i think the bike is near perfect for what it is... all this engine mod stuff makes me laugh... a million other "units" will out power it.... so whats the point???? i guess its human nature to ALWAYS seek "greener" pastures;) oj

What I love about the KLR is there are no surprises. It is exactly what I expected when I bought it. Nothing more and nothing less. Ok, tweety was a bit of a surprise, but even that I have grown to appreciate for its uniqueness. Russel'r DSN_klr650@egroups.com Cc: garagedoor79@... It doesn't bother me either as does not being able to go 200 mph. The KLR650 is what it is. Its not a bike to impress the women on a Saturday night downtown. I'm getting a Suzuki SV650 for that along with black leather pants and jacket. My A13 is for Saturday & Sunday mornings just after the sun comes up riding the pinelands of southern New Jersey. Then I stop at my favorite diner for 2 scrambled eggs, 2 sausage links, hash browns, toast & a tall glass of OJ. Can't beat it; life is greeeeeat! -Brian Shepard A13 -----Original Message----- From: Brad Davis [mailto:bradcdavis@...] Sent: Friday, August 11, 2000 8:58 AM To: DSN_klr650@egroups.com Subject: [DSN_klr650] Re: we're all a little different

The tweety exhaust doesn't bother me at all. When I put my helmet on it quits!
