All-
Anyone out there running a Cobra ISDE exhaust on their KLR? This
weekend I thought that I would repack the muffler as my riding buddy
had noticed that it was getting louder. The Cobra came installed on
the bike when I purchased it used, and uses the stock header pipe
(seems to fit fine without any leaks a la recent SuperTrapp IDS2
problems). The can was removed and dissassembled albeit with much
difficulty only to find no packing inside the can at all. I have heard
comments that the Cobras have been known to self-destruct after a
short life, but mine looked to be alright (not that I would know the
difference). Inside the can after removing the piece which connects
the can to the header pipe (the trianglar shaped piece) I found what
must be the spark arrestor... Looked like a rocket cone on the space
shuttle which was funneled down into a 1.5" dia. perforated pipe which
ran the length of the pipe to the exhaust tip.
So nothing looked bad (screen on the rocket cone was good) but the
bike is sounding appreciably louder over the 1,500 miles that I have
put on it since purchase. I have no idea how old the pipe is, but if
it is already heading downhill, I would like to know what should I
have been looking for when I dissassembled it. Anyone have a similar
experience with their Cobra ISDE?
Thanks again,
Zack
