michigan ride report

Post by Karl Raupp » Sun Jul 09, 2000 9:07 pm

A quick ride report from my Michigan ride from last weekend is here; http://members.home.net/mbp/michigan.htm A good shot of the TSR-200 there for the people who wanted to know what it is. What Mike (the guy I went with, and the guy who made that webpage) failed to mention was day 1 we made almost no progress. With me getting stuck and his bike boiling over, we did maybe 50 km in over 3 hours. Half of that was road allowance to put it into perspective our average speed. Most of the terrain was very sandy whoops (that means it was giving me the fits). The only time it wasn't very sandy whoops was when the very sandy whoops were under water. Day 2 I was hoping for much less sand but it was more of the same, very sandy whoops. We did a bit over 100 km on day 2 and by dinner time I was crying uncle. It takes a lot of energy to keep a KLR going in that stuff. Day 3 was my fave - we headed up to the Beaver Creek, Missaukee and West Higgins Lake trails - what that means in laymans terms is singletrack babee! We did about 130 kms of riding in about 7 hours and loved every minute of it. All in all a very good weekend. We never made it to the U.P. but that means there is always a next time. We got the info on trail system from here; http://www.cycleconservationclub.org/ccc.html They have an amazing trail network there. Designated parking areas, some even with porta-potties, well marked and groomed trails. I picked up a membership in their club which got me the ORV trail system book and mapguide. Good stuff.
