question about your electrex installation

Isn't one of those grommets slightly rectangular? I forget.....Gee, well, if the local automotive alternater rebuilder or or local 'serious' auto parts store didn't have something.... ............or something that could be modified......... I'd try and sculpt a serious chunk of hard rubber with a slit on one side so it could be fit over the wires like a 'C' clamp when fit in place. Then silicone as/if necessary......................................for that finished look. Slide (Part rocket scientist, part brain surgeon.)

Hi Steve, I recycled mine. But what you could do is make a mold of the stock seals out of plaster. Then take your mold and then fill it up with RTV or Urethane. Instant duplicate... in need of dressing up but close. Then drill out tiny holes to push the new wires through or just mold the wires into the new material. LaterZ Dash (who's on the road again!)

Hi Greg, To be truthful, I don't know what to expect. The rated output of the stock stator, according to the KLR manual, is 14 amps. Theoretically, the stock unit will produce somewhere around 190 watts, but that is probably attained at some unreasonable RPM. Electrex claims the stock stator output is closer to 125 watts, and they claim their stator puts out 200 watts. Electrex's problem is they have no data to support their claims. I just know I am going to need more power than the stock system was probably designed for because I plan to use an electric vest and heated grips. Visually, the Electrex stator looks like it is no better than stock. The stock unit has every finger on the stator wrapped with wire. The Electrex unit come with four fingers that are bare. The Electrex unit also looks hand wound and kind of crudely build, although I don't have a problem with that if it works better. The frustrating thing about Electrex is that it is not just plug and play. You have to build your own connector, the grommets aren't supplied etc. Regards, -svt-
