Attachments :I agree, wholeheartedly. I had a '76 Sportster, Liberty Edition, and it was the best damn bike I ever had. I did all my own work and although the bike did require some regular maintenance (tappet adjustments) I only had one problem which was a starter Bendix that went bad in the 8 years and 20,000 miles I put on it . I got a KLR because I wanted something completely different in a bike for a while. But it's my hope that I can afford another Harley sometime in the not so distant future (I do agree with the original poster that they are currently over priced, but I'm content to leave it up to the free market to sort that out). I never did take the attitude when I owned my Harley that other bikes weren't worthy. It was a personal preference that I had for Harley Davidson that made me want to own one. If the chick our freind on the list ran into had an attitude that only Harley's are good, then that's her problem. I wouldn't have felt as if I was obligated to give her any answer at all to her flippant comment. When I was a Harley owner I would have probably approached our list freind and said "that's a pretty cool bike. I wish I could get mine out in the dirt.", which is exactly what a Harley rider said as he pulled up next to me in some rush hour traffic the other day on the Hulton bridge just north of Pittsburgh. We exchanged a few stories as we inched along, both admiring eachother's bikes, until we went our separtate ways. Nice guy - nice bike. My first Sportster, a l958 XLCH, was considered a dirt-bike-with-lights-bolted-on. A dual-sport in its day, as was the Triumph TT Special and the BSA Hornet. I got this problem when I "adjusted" the lever down 1 spline on the shaft to suit my enduro boots better. Only trouble was that the lever was hitting the frame tube when trying to get into first, so back it went to spec location. Else, as already metioned, the stock lever could be breaking the weld.
