I've had more bad experiences with official Kawasaki dealers than with any oil I've used. SH standard is fine to use in the bike. SJ is generally regarded as a no-no. 10W-40 _may_ be a little bit thin for the conditions i.e. northern summer but if the bike runs ok and uses less oil than before then it should be ok.

If the stock lever is welded properly it won't break again unless you crash it.
