The klr has never had any wax....beemer finally got a light coat of wax earlier this spring.... .........gettin old is when the girls call you "sir" and nobody asks you for your ID except the cops....or when you surprise the cop who pulled you over when you take off you helmet and it was obvious the copper was expecting to see some young hooligan, not a grey-haired old man.....   Bill turning 49 this summer I think I'll ride all of Highway 49, to recognize (not going to use the word "celebrate") it.

I'll give you old. If you'd told me 30 years ago that I'd be driving around in an air-conditioned automatic six-cyclinder four-door station wagon, I'd have said, "YEAH, RIGHT!" Just got a Cherokee to replace my aging Wrangler (speaking of off-road vehicles) and it is SO NICE to be able to hear a decent sound system rather than having a leaky canvas top flapping in the breeze. Automatic's nice on my bum left knee, too. And I still have 4wd to hit the trails and get through snowdrifts, and a Class 3 hitch if I wanted to tow a REAL dirt bike. Pete the well-aged Streak 53 yrs old, still w/2 motorcycles

8-You fall over "doing dirt" but take a nap before getting up. 9-You wake up one morning, roll over and notice your childhood beauty queen, the one you married, now looks like your grandmothers sister. 10-Your idea of a big hunt is tracking down snails in your wife's vegetable garden. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Never lose a file again. Hopefully that's not a "dirt nap" from which you will never get up. Jeff

87 klr 650 - should i buy?

Post by Brad Davis » Tue Jun 06, 2000 3:17 pm

I would like some advise from listers on what I think may be a good bike/purchase for me. I have located an 87 KLR 650 which appears to be well maintained and in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition. It has 16k miles, good rubber and no outstanding mechanical problems. I may be able to purchase it for less than $1800. I had in my mind a 95 to 97 model but would, of course, pay much more than that. My gut reaction is that placing more importance on the condition of the bike rather than the year is the right way to go. There should be a lot of miles left in this 87 model as other listers report having high miles on their odometers. Also, since the cost of the bike is less, I would have money to spend on riding jacket/pants/ etc. Oh, I didn't mention that this would be my first bike. Am I missing anything in my reasoning? Are there problems with the early models that might make me reconsider the purchase of this bike? Thanks all and I look forward to your replies.
