[dsn_klr650] i'm back! (for now)
Jeff good to hear from you. Glad your champin in school. We missed your
input on some of the past years rhubarbs........same rhubarbs..different
players. You gonna make it to Moab? If you can make it I'm sure we can
find a bike for you to ride. I could use a good GPS lesson.

Welcome back Jeffro, we kinda missed your intellectual commentary. I hope you get your KLR fixed soon. Whatcha gonna do to it?? Thanks. As little as possible, I hope. I need to do the following: 1. Re-hone the cylinder and replace the rings, assuming that the piston and cylinder are within tolerances. 2. Re-lap the valves and replace the valve oil seals, again assuming everything is otherwise within tolerances. 3. Replace the timing chain, balancer chain, and all associated chain guides and parts. 4. Replace the clutch springs, assuming the clutch plates and friction disks still have some meat on them. 4. Repack the rear suspension pivot bushings. 5. Replace the fork seals. Maybe, just maybe I'll rebuild the carby too, but it seams to be working just fine, so I might just leave it alone. Of course there will be a ton of other things I've overlooked, and who knows what's what until I crack that case open. It couldn't have come at a worse time either, since I really need my bike for transport. But, I'm getting sick of adding 800 mL of oil every tankful of gas, and I have had to adjust the counter-balancer way too often lately, indicating that it is near worn out. I've been riding it every day though, and other than burning a lot of oil, it doesn't show any sign of letting me down. I was kind of hoping that it would last me through next spring when I graduate and buy myself a new bike as a graduation present, but I don't think it will make it that far. On a high-mileage KLR (20K or more), I found that the only way to be sure the tensioner is set properly is to remove the magneto cover and "witness" the adjusting process and maybe help it along with a nudge on the plate as the spring is week and maybe a tad longer than the available travel. At 42K on my A2 last month, the tensioner ran out of travel and I'll be needing to do some parts replacing soon (3-4K miles). Mark B2 (26Kmiles) A2 (42k miles, consuming some oil past the rings, but not nearly as bad as Jeff's)>But, I'm getting sick of adding 800 mL of oil every tankful of gas, and I >have had to adjust the counter-balancer way too often lately, indicating >that it is near worn out.

Good to have you back. Ever think of getting a salvage motor as a spare?
