The oil filter cover is a tight fit. Some folks have been known to use a little too much pressure to remove it when changing the filter, to the point of cracking it. If you're positive that's where the leak is coming from, I'd check to see if the cover was warped or cracked. Might as well verify that they didn't throw the filter pin out with the filter at the same time. John Oldepus

oil filter cap o ring leak

Post by Gary Weaver » Wed May 17, 2000 10:17 pm

------------------------------------------------------------------------ I have a 95' KLR 650 that's sprung a leak.... It's not a severe leak but an annoying one. I'm getting a constant drip/run of oil from the oil filter/pump housing cover on the right side of the bike. I've replaced the rubber O ring once and have even tried using a silicon gasket sealer around the housing. Still leaks and I can't figure out why. I checked for cracks and dings in the crank case housing and on the cover it's self. Can't find any reason for the leak. It seems to drip from the lip/nipple with the arrow on it. Anyone out there got any ideas ?? Any and all info or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Best Wishes, Steve Rawls srimages@... http://www.steverawls Steve, My A3 leaked around the arrow indicator when I purchased a new oil filter cap. No cracks, same symptoms as yours. My theory is poor quality control on the cap. Make sure the oil pickup tube is in the right way too. I simply used two o rings and the leak quit. Simple fix that worked for me. Also be sure not to over tighten the oil filter cap bolts. Fram filters come with a spare o ring. Hey ,I finally found a use for all those leftover O rings. Kawi dealer tried to feed me bullshit about Kawi O rings being different. Fram O rings are the same. Don't waste your money. $3.75 for a OEM Kawi O ring. NAPA crossmatch to a fram filter $4.00 with a spare o ring.Try it, I think it will fix your problem. Twist it don't grip it, Gary Keystone Zen Riders/Pa./KLR/posse
