95' klr oil leak

Post by Jim Hyman » Wed May 17, 2000 9:21 pm

Steve, Is the arrow on the oil cover pointing upward? yes=good no =pffft What weight motor oil are you using? Is the oil level correct? With your bike fully upright, & not running, the oil level should be at or near the top of the oil-level window. Is the oil filter mounting pin installed correctly? A small collar slips on the end of the pin nearest the engine's internals. The pressure bypass valve is inside this pin. Did you tighten both cover screws** evenly? I tighten the screws in 2 stages: little more than finger tight, then final torque. If none of this helps, you may have excessive oil pressure. With the oil at normal operating temperature, there should be 11-21 psi @ 4000 rpm. Let us know how you make out. ** a bolt is a screw without a nut on it (to machinists anyway) Professor A9 Federal Way, Wa. severe leak but an annoying one. I'm getting a constant drip/run of oil from the oil filter/pump housing cover on the right side of the bike. I've replaced the rubber O ring once and have even tried using a silicon gasket sealer around the housing. Still leaks and I can't figure out why. I checked for cracks and dings in the crank case housing and on the cover it's self. Can't find any reason for the leak. It seems to drip from the lip/nipple with the arrow on it. Anyone out there got any ideas ?? Any and all info or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
