[dsn_klr650] (nklr) oil synthetic

Skip, thanks for the post. As a seat of the pants testbed I have notices that some of the smoothest shifting on my bike has been with Valvoline Blue with STP New Car Additive.  Mobil 1 was also good but I have increased oil use, and increased seal leakage. Castol auto seemed OK, but not as clean shifting as the diesel oil. I'm going back to the Valvoline with STP and saving the Mobil 1 for my wife's car. Todd A9     This has been a recurring problem on some bikes but not all. Even on aircraft I`ve noticed higher oil consumption on some engines, but not all.     The common factor appears to be milage and oil grade. The higher the milage, the more prone the increased oil consumption with synthetic oil. Also I`ve heard that by going to a heavier weight synthetic, the consumption went down. On aircraft with high time engines that try synthetic, and the oil consumption goes up, we switch back to single grade and it goes back to normal. The synthetic oils have such a thin base and low pour point, some engine tolerances are just too large to be able to prevent consumption. You won`t hurt anything trying it. If consumption goes up, just switch back to mineral oil or try a heavier weight synthetic.   Skip
