[dsn_klr650] weekend of work

Post by Jim Jackson » Mon May 15, 2000 11:50 am

Just wanted to say thanks for all the articles and info posted by everyone. From Friday night at 6 to Saturday night at 9 I installed LR Progressive springs (15w fork oil/2" pvc spacer), Gripsters, Russell SS brake lines, rear master cylinder cover, new bearings front and rear, new recovered seat, MSR shifter and 16T front sprocket. The tires took the longest since it's been 18 years since my last practice mounting them. Oops, you have to over-pressurize 'em to pop the bead. Duh. Rechecked the torque on all the bolts and such and took her out on Sunday in the SC/NC/GA mtns. What a treat. Drove nice and easy to break in the tires (28 psi) but its like a new bike. I put on 170 miles in 5 hours of smiles. Feeling much better about that carb rejetting now and really wishing I were going to Moab. Perhaps next year. Still waiting on the Harbor Freight 1/4" torque wrench to check the valves. By the way, I got MSR and White Brothers shifters and remember someone mentioning lowering the shifter position relative to your foot. The White Brothers would be tough but taking 1/8" off the bottom of the MSR got one more notch down on the shaft without it touching the frame. Thanks again everyone and a special thanks to Fred for the super fast parts and help. Hi Jim, I'm interested in hearing how you like your mods. Why did you replace the front and rear wheel bearings? Was it just a comfort, feel good, thing or were they worn out? Seems awfully early for failed parts on an A13. Jim

For all m/c electrical wannabees: Proper splicing of electrical wires requires both mechanical and electrical integrity. The following link provides good wiring basics and additional info relating to many aspects of wiring & understanding electrical stuff in general. http://www.tpub.com/neets/book4/12a.htm Professor A9 Federal Way, Wa.
