Yes... it is stranded.

Good point. I'll cut off the yellow plastic stuff - solder the connection -
and heat shrink them. I've got about 40' of the stuff.

The fuse in the block itself will not serve this purpose? No, I guess it
won't, as it falls in-line "after" the wire... I don't mind over-kill (to
an extent). Putting a master fuse in line might be a good idea.
