[dsn_klr650] subject: klr650: valve clearance questions fir

Post by John Laybolt » Tue May 09, 2000 12:09 pm

Hi Kevin, I posted that figure. I'd say check them for sure. When I said 0.008 (tight) I meant it was close to being a 0.007 not any comment on the spec. As for specs, one exhaust out of spec, one (the 0.008) is ok, and both intakes are too close to the edge of the spec to be left as is. So, I have to change 3 maybe 4 shims. I have only 800 easy KM(500Mi) on my a14. Assuming they were correct leaving the factory i'd say they do tighten up a fair bit during breakin. Checking them isn't that bad once you tackle the fear factor, which I still haven't beaten. I haven't pulled the old shims out yet. From the list, i've gathered that all the specs on the KLR tighten over time, the exhaust valves tightening faster than the intakes. All of this is second hand information, haven't had mine long enough to know for myself. Perhaps your interpretation of tighten and mine aren't the same. When I say this I expect my 0.008 spec exhaust to change to 0.007 to 0.006 over time - tighten. Am I correct? John A14 96 Bandit 80 LTD --- Kevin Green wrote:
