OK group - just serviced the clutch. It looked OK (I think - never looked at
one before, but all the plates still had friction material on them). I was
not able to "preserve" the gasket on the clutch cover. I'm picking up the
replacement today. I've never replaced this kind of gasket. What all do I
need to know?
Should I scrape the old one off or just pull and pick?
Do I need some kind of adhesive when I put on the new one?
Do I need to soak the new one in oil first or anything?
Where's the oil trap thing I've heard people talk about cleaning out while
the clutch cover's off?
Also, before removing the clutch cover, I saw a couple drops of coolant
under the water pump, right at the seam between the engine case and the
clutch cover. It was NOT at the seam between the water pump cover and the
clutch cover. Should I just assume it's a clutch cover gasket failure, or do
I need to check the "mechanical seal"? If so, what the heck is it, and how
do I check it?
