Spent some time in Munich, Garmish in 98. Dual Sports were everywhere.
Demand there seems to be higher than here, resulting in them (Europe) getting
some really neat bikes. Saw lots of Transalps.
My employer is sort of a multinational community. The best compliment
I've gotten on my KLR was from an older German gentleman there. He's one of
the corporate big guys.
We'd not shared two words up until this morning, upon arriving to work on
one of my KLR commute days. Walking up together to the entrance of the
"mine," he said in a thick German accent.... "That's a very nice motorbike
you've got there."
Now, this guys been all over the globe, was very knowledgeable about
bikes (turns out he used to ride alot), and seemed sincere in the compliment.
No, I don't think he was hitting on me.
We went on to BS about the differences in the popularity of Dual Sport
bikes between here and Europe (cobblestone roads/fuel costs/traffic/ect..).
The Mity KLR bridged not only a generation gap this fateful morning, but
a cultural one too.
Had a great ride home. Nice weather, took the long route, and I didn't
have to yell at anyone.
Plan on doing a two-up Dual Sport ride with Mrs.Scott here in late July
(Devils Creek ride near Brooksville,Fl). Should be interesting.
All best
Scott
