watt meter

Hi, folks Did a quick search and didn't see this posted, so I thought I'd pass it along. For those of you who like to monitor the current draw of their accessories, check out http://www.powerwerx.com/product.asp?ProdID=3809 We use these all the time in the lab to determine power draw/battery life for our cobbled-up contraptions. Price seems reasonable, too. Krokko -- J. Christopher Krok, Ph.D. Big Cee Engineering KLR650 Accessories and home of the FAQ

That's a great find. Looks like it needs to be attached both in parallel and series for volts and amps. Where did you hook it in to the wiring and mount it? I think you're on the right track. Your comments make me think at least one of the carbs is flooding. If the bike isn't ridden much I would suspect a stuck float needle as a strong possibility. Jim C. A13 '01 LC1500

and series for volts and amps. Where did you hook it in to the wiring and mount it? I haven't used it on my KLR, but only on a few prototype items we're working on. It connects inline between the source/battery and load, so in the case of the KLR, you would want to splice it in between the battery and the main supply terminal (provided it can take the full current; I didn't look at the max specs). Otherwise, you'd use it to test the load from a specific device, or you could look at how the supply voltage changes as you change the number of accessories plugged into the output side of the meter.
