front brake caliper holder stripped
That's weird since the caliper bracket is steel. Only thing I can think
of is someone (dealer or factory) overtorqued it.
Why did you remove it anyway? If you put a screwdriver between the brake
pads and gently, slowly pry them apart you can easily get the rotor back
into the caliper without and disassembly besides removing the axle.

I would NEVER risk the issue. The caliper mount is one of the keys to my
survival, so I would look for OEM or better replacement. I would not
heli-coil it either.
Now, as to why it happened so that it does not happen again ( or for those
that have yet to do it ) - RUN THE BOLT.
What I mean is that any treaded material, prior to be putting into use,
should have the threaded shaft (bolt/screw) run into it for assessment of
fitment.
Also, lube must be used, although I STILL use fresh silicone sealant for
torque preservation and retention, but I have used this solution for over 30
years - Loctite is also good, but I have built no-drip British and H-D
engines before they were popular to have (20 years ago) - so ignore my
thoughts - after all, I simply build leak-free motors, outer suspension
seals, etc.
Besides, Stu, you know more than most....

Hard lesson to learn - especially, when I'm feeling so innocent.
I'm very anal when working on my bikes - guess that's why
it hurt my ego a taint.
I wasn't aware there were "after market" parts for things like this.
I ordered a Kawa OEM replacement from ronayers.com

Dooden's Tip of the Day:
Wooden Clothspin, with spring removed. Now you have 2 long tapered
wedges that when inserted from opposite sides hold/compress the brake
pads by simply pushing them in a bit more with your fingers.

p.s. sorry to hear about the stripped threads, maybe there is some
kind of Helicoil repair out there for it, check with your local NAPA
dealer, amazing the amount of stuff thats avail. to make repairs.
Not so sure I would attempt repairs by using a bolt made to fit the
space unless it felt right. (At least not on the front brake)

2 and half weeks for tires ?
Took me 2 days from a local shop to get them from parts direct for me
cost was compairable to mail order since it was there weekly order
there is no freight charges and the little more I did'nt mind giving
to the local shop that tries there best to have a little of everything
that most of the folk want.
Oh my.. only 18 ft pounds on them ? Mine are way tighter fur sure...
I did'nt even bother looking it up, I tend to just go by feel/reason
for fastner gut kinda thing on alot of stuff not actually part of the
engine internals for the most part.
