exhaust advice

Post by John Cairns » Thu Apr 27, 2006 5:18 pm

Of course those with conservative or stock jetting can use the stock pipe. How does that relate to the question about the best "aftermarket" exhaust for a KLR with a stage-2 kit? I like to mod because I think of my bike as more of a hobby, project and learning experience. Especially the latter. Maybe, although I doubt it, your KLR is perfectly tuned, thats great....I'll keep trying different setups until mine is too. John PS. On the mpg question. Once you install a fusion plant on your KLR you can talk down to me about efficiency. Until then I suggest buying shares of XOM.

exhaust advice

Arden, If you're getting a popping on deceleration, check the exhaust header pipe nuts and the clamp between the header pipe and the muffler. I've had both come loose and cause it. I'm a rider, not a tuner. Still, I did manage a few years back to install my jet kit without wrecking anything on my A11, including the mileage. My main reason for the jet kit was to quell a surging at 4000 rpm, not to make more power. I don't have my little KLR diary with me, but as I recall I made a conservative installation by using the Dynojetneedle and drilling the slide, but keeping the stock main jet. I can't say I've had this one to triple digits (that's why I keep my VFR), but it's been close. Gas mileage with normal commuting (5000 rpm) and town riding is around 50. More if I just putt around on back roads. It runs just fine except for some poppity-pop on decleration that started in the last 1000 miles or so. When are you going to start marketing those cool mirror mounts, Bogdan? __Arden

I'm flattered but not me. Anyone is welcome to steal the idea. Mike Colishaw - to name one - could produce them in short order. Bogdan

It even did fine on ESR with a little extra clutch. But, riding up to ESR, it was a godsend j
