One more thing to look out for. You may have 12V at the socket, but the wires/connections may be corroded causing resistance. This resistance can lower the amperage so as not to light the bulb. Every connection need be checked.

I have a 05 KLR with some light issues that I could use some help with. The only lights that are working on it are high beam, dash lights, and license plate light. No low beam, tail light, or brake light. Fuses under the seat are good swapped them around and tested them in both sides. Bike runs great. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance. <><><><><><> <><><><><><> First thing I'd be doing is replacing the bulbs. Maybe they are both burned out at the same time. If that didn't do the job I'd get out a voltmeter and see if I had power at the headlight socket on the red/yellow wire which is low beam. No power means it's between the switch and where you checked since high beam works which indicates power is getting to the switch. For the tail light I'd check under the seat near the voltage regulator. The wiring for the rear of the bike passes by there. Check the connector and see that it is plugged correctly and then check for power at the red/yellow wire which is power for the tail light and license plate light. No power there means the issue is between the ignition switch and the connection. If you do have power check at the bulb connection in the tail light. For the brake light check for power at the brown wire at the brake light switch. Check both switches since both can power this circuit. While in the area check for power at the blue wire right next to the brown wire. That should have power when that brake light switch is activated. No power to a switch is more complicated than the early checks as they get power at different areas. For all these checks the key must be in the run position. Let us know what you find. My guess is you have two burned out bulbs at the same time. Best, Jeff Saline The Beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota 75 R90/6, 03 KLR650 . . . . .
