I love fall. Every week morning I wake up at 5:30. Most peoples first thoughts would be, "I hate getting up and going to work." Some of the reasons for this thought are: I hate diving in traffic, I have to long a drive, etc. Well I am a blessed. I live in southern Indiana. I work at Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana. Fall here is beautiful and the weather is great. I just bought a 1999 KLR650. I have a 30 mile commute to work every morning and back home again. I have several options on roads that I can ride. First is probably the least attractive of them all, HWY 37. Although it is the least attractive it is still a pleasant ride. It offers several views of hills full of trees and valleys with creeks running through. Not bad! Next is 446. This road is listed as one of the most scenic in the country. Not only are the views scenic but it has several twisties. The traffic on this road is almost existent. I once saw two cars. Plus it has been repaved, not that it need it. Also, about 5 miles from Bloomington there is a causeway that is about a quarter of a mile long crossing Lake Monroe. John Mellancamps house is just of this causeway on the shore of the lake. There is another road it is equally great but I won't mention it for fear of making all of you to jealous. I ride about three times a week. The KLR is a great bike for this purpose. Well I guess that is all. I just thought that I would share this with all of you. Kyle

Hey, that's not too bad, but I can top it. Today I am riding down to San Francisco, a 50 mile each way trip of lane-splitting in heavy traffic the entire way. I get paid for it. I'll be on the BMW and going to the Financial District. The real danger there lies in the possibility of being completely distracted by gorgeously constructed secretaries on the sidewalk or in the crosswalk. There aren't any twisties but I can tell you the riding is as challenging as you'll find anywhere, with the possible exception of NYC or Mexico City. I get to ride over a famous bridge and I go past several movie stars homes and baseball players restaurants. For this I get about $40k a year and .31 per mile. Sometimes I go to Sacramento, sometimes I just go around town. Every day it's a new route, seems like. Happy Ridin

When I have a few minutes, I pull out Motocross Madness 2 and pretend I am Travis Pastrana, Ricky Carmichael, and Jeremy McGrath. I never get hurt, my bike never breaks, and gas is free! new '01/boot question

Post by bmgecko » Thu Sep 28, 2000 4:04 am

Craig, I'm sure actual riding boots are really nice to own (I can't say with real certainty, as I never owned a pair) but I use my good 'ol military issue desert boots. Seem to work just fine. Maybe if you get enough input from folks saying that purpose built boots are better (I'm sure you will, they probably cost more for a reason!) you might wanna pick some up if you got a few spare shekels. Posting pure opinion, Chris Astier
