TB Tail Lamp
Every "factory" photo I've ever seen of a TB shows a circular tail lamp like
the TA. I've read documentation that states the TC like "D" lamp was fitted
circa TA #1790 and continued through the TB/C. Does anyone have any other
information regarding TA/B tail lamps?
Thanks,

Re: [mg-tabc] TB Tail Lamp
Hi Bill and all,
TA2969 (Salmons 4443) had a beat up 'D' lamp tail lens when I bought it in
1976. The car had been 'tapped' once or twice in the rear so I assummed a
more modern 'D' replacement for the round lens was added sometime in the
past. Now I wonder if perhaps it was the original. Meanwhile I have two
NOS round tail lens which may or may not end up on 2969.
A photo of Bill Hentzen's perfect TB Tickford shows he went the 'D' lamp
route.
Oil Lines and filter- between the bracket and canister (with spin on filter)
I have a .125" 40 durometer nitrile rubber pad which hopefully will dampen
any nasty vibrations. Untried as yet. Cheers Lee Jacobsen, 39TA. 45TC

Bill,
The round lamp ceased at body number 1789/10574, the D shape was introduces
at 1790/10554, this from the TA~TB parts list.
For the debate on Body numbers then it seems that all the changes in the
parts list that relate to Body rather than chassis numbers would give
sucsessife chassis on the production line (?) so 1790/10554 rolled along
the line immediately after 1789/10574 - but we dont know what their chassis
numbers were!

Re: [mg-tabc] TB Tail Lamp
Bill,
Most factory photos seem to be, or are, of the so called TB prototype which
is in fact an unmodified TA and not even a late one probably. Mike Sherrell
in 'TC's Forever' exposes this fraud in his section on the TB, even to
showing that the so called prototype still has an MPJG engine!!
MG were amazing for the smokescreens they raised.
The new book MGs on Patrol by Andrea Green, reproduces a marketing guide for
TB Police Conversions. This has an excellent photograph (in a brochure dated
June 39) of the rear of a TB showing the single D lamp. This to me is 'real'
evidence. According to Clausager in his 'Original MG T Series' restoration
guide, the very late TAs (the '1939' model) and the TBs all had the single
'D' lamp. I am inclined to believe the evidence supports this, and that the
'O' lamp supposedly on a TB is a red herring. The body number evidence from
other T-ABCers confirms this.
My TB has D lamps, so of course I am probably in favour of the 'D' theory!

Re: [mg-tabc] TB Tail Lamp
TA 2070 is being fitted with round, black finish tail lights. In the mid
'70s I was buying some parts from Toulmin Motors in London and was
advised by them that this was correct.

TB tail lamp
Wasn't the tail lamp that came originally on TBs a round unit, rather than
the D lamp?
The D lamp started on the TC in the MG world, correct?

Re: TB tail lamp
Good day Tom!
According to the TA/TB Parts book-the round tail light ceased with TA1789
and the 'D' lamp began with TA 1790. It would seem therefore that the TB
came with the 'D Lamp. Of course to use up old stock or newly recovered
stock, as MG did, the round 39? Lamp might have been used as is shown in the
many Tickford ads with round tail lights.
According to the TA& TB Tickford Registry the first TA Tickford we are aware
of is TA2556.
Cheers!
